Tax The Road User Even More!
Tuesday, May 20th, 2008Whilst there have been some slight increases to the annual Road tax that motorists pay, those increases are pretty pathetic and will only make the a slight dint in the wallets and consciences of motorists who drive expensive gas guzzling cars. Here’s a thought.
Why not make the annual 12 months road tax for a gas guzzler £2000! Does anyone think that your average owner of a car in the highest tax band (G) for road tax will think twice about paying this? Well some might, and importantly, this kind of dramatic move will give weight to the importance of the argument that reducing overall CO2 levels from personal car usage is vital. More people need to wake up and smell the diesel in this country!
The the UK, personal car travel produces a considerable 13 per cent of the UK’s total greenhouse gas emissions. This is an area where we need to take action! So if it were up to me, these would be the new prices for a tax disc.
Band B Annual Tax £120
Band C Annual Tax £800
Band D Annual Tax £1000
Band E Annual Tax £1200
Band F Annual tax £1700
Band G Annual Tax £2000
The only reason why Band B is disproportionately low is that me and me Mum drive cars in that band and I’m not paying anymore! Stuff that! The government already rob me of a load of tax, their not having a penny more than I have to hand over.
The point I am making is that it is not me that the government should be chasing after the real environmental criminals – not me! I am not a criminal. Well, I might have a bit of a Police record, but that was my next door neighbours fault, not mine! How dare he suggest that my wife was anything other than of sound moral foundation! I didn’t expect the weedkiller to kill all his Koi Carp.
Anyway, I am getting away from the main point. Let’s get serious about charging more for Road tax. It will pay dividends in the long run.
